Why study Engineering in the UK?
UK Engineering programmes span Mechanical, Electrical/Electronic, Civil, Chemical, Aerospace, Automotive, Biomedical, Manufacturing and Software Engineering. Most undergraduate programmes are available as a three-year BEng (Bachelor of Engineering) or a four-year MEng (Integrated Master's). The MEng is the direct route to Chartered Engineer status and is increasingly preferred by employers and the professional institutions. UK programmes are taught through a combination of lectures, problem classes, laboratory work, design projects and (on most programmes) an optional industrial placement year. International fees range from £18,000 to £30,000 per year at universities; pathway colleges sit between £12,500 and £17,500. Foundation Year routes are available for students who don't meet direct-entry maths and physics requirements.
Career outcomes
Graduates take roles as graduate engineers at UK firms (Rolls-Royce, BAE Systems, Arup, Atkins, JCB, Dyson, McLaren, AstraZeneca, Shell, ARM) and international companies with UK offices. Starting salaries for graduate engineers typically sit at £28,000-£35,000, rising to £45,000-£65,000+ for Chartered Engineers with 5-7 years of experience. According to LEO data, Engineering graduates have one of the highest median earnings of any UK subject. Multiple engineering disciplines sit on the UK Shortage Occupation List, making Skilled Worker visa sponsorship straightforward for qualified graduate engineers.
Courses available through AEN
We work with UK partners offering Foundation Year Engineering (£5,760-£9,790), HNC/HND Engineering, BEng Mechanical / Electrical / Civil / Chemical / Aerospace / Biomedical Engineering, MEng (Integrated Master's), Top-up Engineering and MSc Engineering programmes (Project Management, Renewable Energy, Robotics, Manufacturing Systems and many specialist routes).
Entry requirements
Direct BEng / MEng entry typically requires AAB-AAA including Mathematics and Physics A-Levels (or equivalent international qualifications), particularly at Russell Group universities. Post-1992 universities accept lower grades. IELTS 6.0-6.5 with no element below 5.5. Foundation Year accepts students without strong Maths/Physics backgrounds and includes intensive preparation in both before degree entry.
